EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND
Scott was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1954. He was admitted to practice in the State of Washington in 1980. He is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington, and the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. His undergraduate and law school education follows:
- Boston University Law School, J.D., 1980
Honors: Director, Stone Moot Court Competition, 1979-1980
- Pacific Lutheran University, B.A., magna cum laude, 1976
Scott was a law clerk to the Honorable Ward Williams, Washington State Court of Appeals-Division I, from 1980-1982. He was affiliated with the Seattle law firm of Reed McClure from 1982 to 1995, first as an associate and then as a shareholder. He left Reed McClure in 1995 to form Todd & Wakefield. In 2015, Todd & Wakefield merged with Fallon & McKinley to become Fallon, McKinley & Wakefield.
He is a member of the following professional organizations:
- King County Bar Association
- Washington State Bar Association
- Washington State Trial Lawyers Association
- Pierce County Bar Association
Scott resides in Seattle with his wife. He has two daughters: an aspiring actor who lives in Chicago and a new lawyer who lives in Washington. D.C.
Petulant, morose, and insular, Scott is proof that even a man with serious personality defects can succeed in the practice of law and convince juries of the justice of his clients’ positions. No mean feat when you consider that Scott mostly represents insurance companies and financial institutions.
Scott has represented insurance carriers in coverage and bad faith litigation for most of his career, including environmental coverage, business interruption disputes, and underinsured / uninsured motorist and other first party personal lines coverage disputes.
Recently he obtained a defense verdict for a financial institution client in a lender liability case in Pierce County Superior Court.
In his spare time, Scott is an avid bicyclist, swimmer and walker. He has completed the Seattle to Portland ride (in one day) several times, as well as Ride Around Mt. Rainier in One Day (RAMROD). Scott and his spouse have also finished two National Trails in Great Britain: The Cotswold Way and the South Downs Way. They have their sights set on the Coast to Coast Walk (St. Bees to Robinshood Bay) in 2012.
